A Natural History GCSE syllabus is currently being developed and aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of the natural world and equip them with skills like observation, description, recording, and analysis, particularly through fieldwork. The syllabus will also emphasize the importance of conservation and the fragility of ecosystems.
Key themes and concepts will likely include:
  1. Organisms and their environments - Exploring the diversity of life, their interactions with each other, and their relationship with the environment.
  2. Environmental and sustainability issues - Understanding the challenges facing the natural world, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
  3. Interdependencies - Understanding how different parts of the natural world are interconnected and how changes in one can affect others.
The Natural History GCSE is designed to provide students with a strong foundation for future careers in fields related to the natural world, such as environmental science, conservation biology, wildlife management, and environmental policy.

Scott V Maslin

Conservation Zoologist / Wildlife Consultant

For more than thirty years I have rescued and rehabilitated a wide variety of animals, mostly British wildlife and birds of prey. I also deal with non-native and captive species including exotic reptiles, insects and birds.

When my full-time studies ended in 2002 I began creating and presenting environmental education projects for groups of all ages and abilities, incorporating different techniques and approaches for the Key Stages of educational development.

I consider myself very fortunate to have lived in some of the most wildlife diverse places in the United Kingdom - born and raised in Dorset, studied in north Wales before heading to work in Yorkshire. I now live on the edge of the South Downs National Park, in East Sussex.

My life can be divided into three sections: WORK, BIKES, and FAMILY, although I do spend some time taking part in numerous other activities and hobbies.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
